“Therefore every teacher of the law who has become a disciple in the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house who brings out of his storeroom new treasures as well as old.” — Jesus, Matthew 13:52

Our church is one with deep roots that is also open to the ways in which we believe God is leading us forward. We seek to bring old and new treasures out of our storeroom in order to faithfully live as the people of God today. From its founding, our church has desired to be a place of grace where members can take an active role in the life of the church and where love for each other is emphasized and nurtured. While our church has evolved in many ways over the last several decades, those core elements have remained distinctive of The Vine Church. Today The Vine is an open and affirming, nondenominational church. This means that we welcome in full fellowship — including in positions of leadership — individuals of every race, gender, and sexual orientation, and we affirm the dignity and value of all people.

Our church made the decision to be an open and affirming church where members of the LGBTQ+ community are embraced and fully included in all areas of church life in the summer of 2022. This transition was a difficult one for our church family as it resulted in many of our members and attendees leaving our church. However, it has also been incredibly rewarding as our church has provided a space for many people to feel and experience Christian community in new and meaningful ways. In the immediate aftermath of our decision in 2022, our Sunday morning attendance numbers were in the mid 20s. Today we average 70-80 people at our Sunday morning worship services. We are continuing to grow and offer more ministry programming and service opportunities, and we would love for you to come grow with us!

The Vine originally began as Canyon Creek Church of Christ in 1982. While we have roots in churches of Christ heritage, we are not bound by the traditions, practices, or doctrines of churches from that movement. However, connections to those roots can still be seen in some of our practices, including weekly taking of communion as part of our worship services, a high view of baptism, and valuing church autonomy (meaning we are not governed by a larger denominational board).

The name of the church was changed to The Vine in 2012 because some of the church’s worship practices and teachings moved away from common Church of Christ traditions and beliefs. Today we are an ecumenical church, meaning that our practices, beliefs, and membership are reflective of a variety of Christian backgrounds and traditions. We welcome a diversity of beliefs and find our unity in Christ, in belonging to a loving fellowship of believers, and in fostering an environment where all are welcomed and included.
